The International Convention on the Control of Harmful Anti-fouling Systems on Ships was adopted by IMO on 5 October 2001, and enter into force on 17 September 2008
International anti fouling systems certificate:
Application:
Vessel less than 24 m in length are not required to have IAFS or even to be inspected
Vessels more than 24 m in length but less than 400 GRT are not required to have IAFS but must have “Declaration of antifouling system”, which is filled out and signed by ship owner and left onboard, the declaration should be attached with appropriate documents showing the compliance with the IAFS convention such as paint receipt or contractor invoice
Ships more than 400 GRT must excluding fixed or floating platforms, FSUs and FPSOs have IAFS certificate issued by a recognized organization
Surveys:
International anti fouling systems certificate require Initial survey before issuance of the certificate. no annual, intermediate or renewal surveys are required
Validity on International anti -fouling system certificate
International anti fouling systems certificate are issued without expiry dates, which means it is issued for lifetime and shall be reissued in cases of flag change or removal and re-applying the anti-fouling system
